It is fair to allow 5th graders to make decision concerning whether they should have closing exercise?
I am a parent of Leith Walk Elementary School. For some reason the 5th graders, not all, are misbehaving ( not completing assignments on time, being rude or disrespectful, etc.). The principal and teachers asked the children to evaluate themselves to see whether or not they think they should have a closing exercise because of their behavior (passing all classes, finishing assignments in a timely fashion, being respectful). Then they told everyone to stand if they thought they should participate because of the self evaluation. Of course my child is one who did not stand because she had a failing grade the 1st semester in reading, and she thought because of the questions, in the eval., she should not stand even though she is passing now and has turned in assignments on time. As of now she will not be participating in closing exercises. All parents who children were not on the list, must attend a meeting Monday morning, as if majority of parents are not working those hours.
